Text of Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address

Content of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address In November 1863, President Abraham Lincoln was welcome to convey comments at the devotion of a burial ground on the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, which had seethed in the Pennsylvania field for three days during the past July. Lincoln utilized the chance to compose a brief yet keen discourse. With the Civil War in its third year the country was persevering through an amazing expense in human life, and Lincoln felt constrained to offer an ethical defense for the war. He deftly associated the establishing of the country with the war to keep it joined together, required another birth of opportunity, and finished by communicating his optimal vision for the American government. The Gettysburg Address was conveyed by Lincoln on November 19, 1863. Content of Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address: Fourscore and seven years prior our dads delivered on this landmass another country, considered in freedom and committed to the suggestion that all men are made equal. Now we are occupied with an extraordinary common war, testing whether that country, or any country so imagined thus devoted, can long persevere. We are met on an extraordinary war zone of that war. We have come to commit a bit of that field, as a last resting-place for the individuals who here gave their lives that this country may live. It is out and out fitting and appropriate that we ought to do this. But, from a bigger perspective, we can not devote - we can not sanctify - we can not honor - this ground. The bold men, living and dead, who battled here, have blessed it, far over our poor capacity to include or degrade. The world will little note, nor long recall, what we state here, yet it can always remember what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be committed here to the incomplete work which they wh o battled here have so far so respectably progressed. It is somewhat for us to be here committed to the incredible undertaking staying before us - that from these regarded dead we take expanded dedication to that cause for which they gave the last full proportion of commitment - that we here profoundly resolve that these dead will not have kicked the bucket futile - that this country, under God, will have another birth of opportunity - and that administration of the individuals, by the individuals, for the individuals, will not die from the earth.

Structuring a Sales Team of Any Size

Structuring a Sales Team of Any Size © Shutterstock | Rawpixel.comIn this article we discuss the best structural approach for a sales team regardless of its size, big or small. The article also takes you through the importance of proper structuring of a sales team, the various structuring options, and how sales teams determine the performance of any business in an increasingly competitive world.INTRODUCTION INTO SALES AND SALES TEAM STRUCTURINGWhen it comes to time for structuring or restructuring your sales team, leaders ought to be very aware of what specialists they should recruit and, more importantly, under what criteria these intended team members should be brought on board.Note, structure does not simply imply the outside framework or hierarchy; structure is how the whole sales team fits together and works together to avail the best possible results for the business. With an excellent approach in structuring your sales team, the results will be excellent delivery in sales, enabling you to get even further ahead i n the business world. The question of how to structure a sales team demands that a person take a close look at their current sales team if one was already in place. At its most basic, structuring an effective sales team entails taking the team through three stages regardless of its size:Attract: This is pulling in essential members of your sales team. These are, content creators, creative team, social media managers, among other members of a sales team. Despite the fact that skill set is not what definitively makes a person best suited for a sales team position, it is the best place to start looking. Therefore, ensure that each individual recruited in different functions of the sales team is highly skilled in order to be able to bring the best value the business as well as the consumers.Convert: Every individual in this prototype of a sales team is taken through conversion and optimization in the art of lead scoring, nurturing, and customer retention regardless of their designated ro le in the structure. Attracting the rightfully skilled personnel is only the first step. It is important to ensure that each team member is highly conversant with the purpose and goals of the sales department in order to be able to bring the utmost value to the team, the business, and the consumers. This stage will normally involve some level of training of the recruited personnel in the art and strategies of sales.Close: Creating a team that not only does the talk but does the talk; gearing the team members to close on all or most of the opportunities that come your business’s way. Bluntly, this is the purpose of a sales team; to be able to make sales and not just attempt. It is important to ensure that every team member has the capacity and is properly equipped to effect or enable sales in their different functions within the team. A team that is not equipped to close the deal, no matter how well structured, or how vast it may be, will be a liability to the business as opposed t o the asset it should be.More of this will be expounded in subsequent sections of the article. In any business organization, the sales department is the lifeline. The sales department generates revenue for the organization. Regardless of how much you have perfected the manufacturing or production operation of your businesses, or how up-to-date you are with technology, how properly you are managing your financial goals, how progressive your management techniques may be, or how extensive your business and sales team may be, you have to have an effective sales team or everything else will slowly but gradually begin to become redundant. All other efforts made in the various departments of your business will gradually become frustrated. Most businesses under-invest in their sales teams, treating their sales departments as though they were an afterthought, to be considered after all the production, distribution, and financial issues have been taken care of.The best sales teams comprise of carefully selected individuals who are properly structured, passionate, reasonably autonomous, and properly motivated. Well structured sales teams serve clients or consumers interests; they form and maintain strong personal relationships with key consumers in addition to attracting and creating new relationships for your business.LINK BETWEEN SALES TEAM FUNCTIONS AND ACTUAL SALES/IMPORTANCE OF A PROPERLY STRUCTURED SALES TEAMThis section will describe in detail how sales teams have influence on the sales/revenue made by any business:To start with, a sales team serves as the Inbound Promoters of a business. The sales team takes up the task of analyzing consumer personas and identifying what entices and interests them. As Inbound Promoters, the sales team proceeds to attract them with elements of their interest by influencing conversion of the business’s goods and services into valuable commodities for consumers. The sales team also nurtures the relationships formed between the busi ness and the consumers and in the process conduct research necessary for the business to identify areas of untapped market; areas in which the business brand can infiltrate and expand.Expounding on the above point, a sales team acts as the Market Researcher of the business. The sales team gathers and analyzes data, identifies consumers, finds social influencers to liaise with, and closes deals with targeted buyers. For example, a sales team will do the research and make connections with companies or individuals that your organization can draw business from but who are either unaware of your brand or who have no idea that they are in need of your product or service.Further, the sales team is the Closer of the business. The sales team has been tasked with the primary function of ensuring that the business makes the best sales possible. They do their homework, acting in their Market Researcher capacity, and engage the consumers in conversations that eventuallyenable suitable change in the business and, hence, expand its sales volume and enable it to ultimately reach its goals. The personnel of a well structured sales team are skilled in listening, posing questions, and tactfully subduing consumer objections. In addition to this the personnel build trust with consumers by consistently delivering value directly to the consumers through consultation, education, and occasional project involvement with the consumers. You are probably thinking that putting together a team that comprises of personnel with the above discussed qualities is an easy enough task. How hard could it be, right? However, consider this; how many individuals are really going to be good at more than one of the above mentioned tasks? For individuals that happen to posses multiple strengths, how many can adequately divide their time between those roles to sufficiently complete the purpose of each? Placing functional specialists in a team is the first step, however it is necessary to make sure that eac h of the individuals regardless of their particular role are conversant with the overall objectives and roles of the sales team. This way you will have leveraged the skill sets of each team member and incase a team member is unavailable or underdeveloped their role will effectively be supplemented by other team members; hence covering all the bases. The efficiency of a sales team structure is significantly diminished when there is no such structure implemented; when aspects of the sales team functions are being redundant and not compensated for by other team members. The efficiency of a sales team also diminished when team members have been assigned more tasks than they can effectively divide their time amongst.Note, it is extremely important not to rely too heavily on one function of the sales team. For example, if your business emphasizes too much on the Inbound Marketing function of your sales team it will be difficult to attract high-profile potential clients such as companies. T his is because established companies will rarely spend their time looking for new product or service providers since they already have entrenched solutions and possibly internal departments that are opposed to change. In that case, a balanced emphasis of functions within your sales team would ensure that the Market Research function is properly executed and hence your business would be better positioned to gain entry and acquire the targeted company as your business’s new client. Maybe it is time to reconsider your sales team structure along the lines of functionality as opposed to the basic lines of skill set alone. By ensuring that your sales team works as one organically flowing unit that supplements its shortcomings at every turn within itself, your business will be able to connect with its target population, make projected sales, and eventually accomplish its goals. With so much emphasis on the structure of a sales team, the following section of the article avails a structuring approach that can be adopted for a sales team of any size in order to bring it to its full potential.SALES TEAM STRUCTURING OPTIONSThere are several structuring options that a business can adopt for its sales team. The suitability of each option differs from organization to organization. These sales team structuring options are described as follows:Customer-Centric StructureA Customer-Centric sales team refers to one that places its primary focus on meeting the needs of the consumers. This sort of sales team enables the business to create the best solutions for consumers as opposed to simply availing the best products or services from the business’s perspective. Customer-Centric sales teams are focused on the product/service packaging, consumer training and education, as well as provision of consultative services to the consumers. This way the consumer’s experience is enriched and hence customer loyalty is achieved. In order to grow the business, the Customer-Centric sales team constantly searches in untapped markets for new consumers whose needs need to be met. The sales team looks for new ways to constantly increase the business’s market share. In businesses that adopt a Customer-Centric structure for their sales team, marketing and profits are measured in terms of consumers as opposed to products.Similarly, success is measured by the lifetime value of the business’s consumers. The biggest reward to the business in applying this option is that it is able to nurture and sustain a large base of consumers, which implies higher profits in both the short -run and the long-run.[slideshare id=683221doc=tpmcustomerfocusedsalesorganizationhewitt-1224708006762196-9w=640h=330]Product-Centric StructureA Product-Centric sales team is one that places its focus on the products and services that it introduces to the market as opposed to the consumers who purchase those products. Product-Centric sales teams are driven by an urge to develop the product or service they represent. The advantage of this structuring option is that one can exploit the talents and skills already found within the business without having to look outside of the business at the consumer’s unmet needs. The sales team simply gathers information that it relays to the business and in turn the business invests to have the best product or service; with the best features in the market.Success for a business that adopts the Product-Centric approach is measured by the portfolio of products or services it presents, the sales volume of those products and services, and the market share that the business holds. Presenting the numerous applications your product or service has is an essential part of your sales pitch, making the Product-Centric approach a potentially effective structure for any sales team.[slideshare id=316676doc=productcentric-versuscustomer-centric-organization-1206131150535568-3w=640h=330]The downside of having a Product-Centric sales team is that the vision of the business is limited since the outlook is only from the product lens. For this reason a business that applies this option can easily be blindsides from changing its product’s or service’s focus. In addition, the business may be gaining from short term product sales and missing out on the benefits of long-term customer loyalty.Geographic StructureThe Geographic Structure is where a sales team is structured and divided to focus on geographical specialties. This option can be useful for understanding markets and meeting consumer needs more thoroughly. For example, the business can have territories for each one of its sales people or group of sales people; after which those sales people have the mandate to work their individual territories thoroughly and amass the maximum number of sales possible. This structuring option is highly suitable in industries such as telecommunications and advertising. One strength of this sales team structuring option is that since different areas will poss ess different demographics, sales will require a different approaches and techniques in order to be successful. As such, the Geographic Structure allows the sales team to hone in on their individual markets through specialization.Regardless of which sales team structural option one chooses, there are several questions that a business owner ought to consider to aid in their decision. These questions ought to be answered with the utmost consideration; they must just be the determinants of how your business performs. There are additional options on how you could structure your sales organization as discussed in the following video. What kind of efforts will be necessary to meet the business’s needs? How many sales personnel will be necessary for the achievement of those goals? Which structural option is the most suitable for handling the particular product or service that the business provides?STRUCTURING APPROACH FOR AN EFFECTIVE SALES TEAMThe times of the rigid, overly populated, an d slow to act business departments have continued to haunt businesses even in a time when there is so much advocacy for agile and adaptive business organizations. In a time when even small organizations have gained the capacity to reach potential clients in their millions through the internet, the business organizations that are performing the best are those that have been able to market and sell to the clients with the utmost degree of precision and this new dynamic is not going to change any time soon. These technological changes imply that the best performers are able to attract, serve, and retain a bigger market and, therefore, reap the largest share of that market’s revenue. The key, as discussed above, to effectively attracting potential clients to a business lies significantly on the competence of a business’s sales team. How are hyper effective organizations such as Google and Valve structuring their sales teams to gain exceptional performance? Here are some of the pointers /approaches in sales team structuring that can ensure that your business’s performance improves remarkably.Intimately Internalize the Concept of SalesIt may not seem as important but the very first step towards building a properly structured team lies in understanding sales just as intimately as you understand your area of specialty in your business; you should be the best sales person in your business. What is a sale? A sale, very unambiguously, refers to the act of closing a deal with the consumer. Without understanding and internalizing this concept it will be difficult to make any sales. Ineffective sales persons do nothing but speak but they rarely close deals; they have been termed crocodile sales persons and can be very dangerous for the growth of your business. An effective salesperson understands that sales involve the business and the customer, where a foundation of a relationship is laid first. When this relationship has been established, the sales person can then commenc e to inquire the consumer’s needs. If this process is ignored, it is likely that a consumer will feel that the sales person has no interest in their wellbeing and withdraw. However, ‘sales’ is not just about consumers, on the contrary, sales is something we encounter everyday in business. It is something one does when they approach their partners or investors because even in that context one is selling themselves. For this reason, it is important to understand sales, develop and cultivate a working sales process even before putting together or restructuring a sales team. Otherwise, how will you be able to oversee the functionality of your sales team?Self InvolvementIf your idea of creating an effective sales team is hiring someone else to implement your structure and manage the team for you in your business; it would be advisable to change tact. You ought to involve yourself very actively in the selling of your product or service, not just to potential investors but also to consu mers; do not assume that you are too high up in the hierarchy to get down and dirty with your sales team. The importance of this involvement when putting together and structuring your sales team is that it enables you to understand the various challenges that your salespeople encounter. This way, once you have recruited and structured the team you are equipped with experience to manage them and help them succeed. If you do not already have a sales team and/or have not involved yourself actively in the activities of the sales team, you can get a start by practicing how to sell your business product or service by creating your own presentation; it does not have to be too long. All it needs to show is what your business has to offer and why consumers need your product or service. That is, strive to learn how to sell what your business has to offer better than anyone else in the business.Additionally, every time you encounter consumers, incorporate their interests in your product or servi ce and encourage other sales team members to do the same because it will enable you and your sales team to perform better in future encounters with consumers. Growing this culture will not only enable you to be an excellent sales person, but you will be better positioned to structure and manage your sales team for optimum performance.Recruiting Growth Inclined TeamNote, just because an individual has been successful in a sales team for a different business or organization, does not translate to great performance in your business’s sales team. Therefore, do not let potential recruits sway your judgment by narrating how good they are as sales personnel. What is important is to spot the passion in them; a passion for constantly improving and competing at a higher level than they are in. Potential sales team recruits ought to display eagerness to attain greater levels of experience. In addition to this, the sales persons ought to be most comfortable interacting with consumers and potent ial consumers, listening to their comments, and receiving constructive criticism. They ought to be persons who are looking forward to receive consumer feedback over and over again in order to facilitate your business with the information necessary for creating a product or service consumers will love.Shrinking the HierarchyAfter the recruitment has been done, more focus can be laid on the actual framework around the sales team. As opposed to placing focus on creating multiple layers of a management system for the approval or disapproval of tasks within the sales team, each employee can be allowed an increased level of autonomy in their individual roles.Allowing selected sales personnel to exercise a reasonable level of autonomy will grow their passions, increase their motivation, and gradually enhance their performance. It is very important to skim away at the management hierarchy of your sales team in order to support an increasingly horizontal sales structure that empowers the sal es personnel in the performance of their duties. An example of where one could shrink their hierarchy is when you identify an opportunity to restructure and reduce a managerial layer in the sales team, thereby, lowering the cost of sales without affecting the value of the product or service. This would in turn attract more consumers to the business and substantially boost that business’s performance all around. All this can be achieved without taking up additional costs or costs incurred in fresh training of personnel.Focus on Strong PerformersAs much as it is important to focus on the all round performance of your sales team, a little bias might be encouraged in terms of placing a little more focus on the strongest performing members of your sales team. For optimum performance of the team, promoting the growth of the best performing sales persons can significantly increase the overall performance of the team.Hyper performers make up less than 50 percent of the team; these performer s produce revenue and value in large amounts and for this reason, you should take some extra time to coach and develop their talents and possibly improve the sales team’s performance even more.Reconsidering Information Intake and ApplicationOver half of the information that businesses obtain is of little or no value to them. Because of this, businesses end up missing a lot of information that is most relevant and valuable to their particular line of business. The presence of information ought to be a promotional factor for your business’s sales team as opposed to an inhibiting factor in order to make informed sales judgments. Therefore, for the sales team you put together, ensure that you pay close attention and control the manner in which sales metrics are managed and used on a daily  basis by the members of your sales team. This will involve cleaning your businesses database and ridding it off duplicates, reinstalling lost and missing information, adding relevant and useful inf ormation, and amending incorrect data in order to eliminate the likelihood of acting upon poorly informed decisions for your sales team. As signing a member of the sales team, tasking them with the duty of eliminating information errors in the business’s database system can ensure that there is a constant of valuable and beneficial information for the performance of the sales team’s duties.[slideshare id=7987075doc=ncvojan2010-theimportanceofdataaccuracy-slidesharevn-110516172822-phpapp01w=640h=330]IN BRIEFSo, what is the perfect Sales Team Structure for your business? As much as it is important to structure your sales team for success, it is equally important to carefully consider how the personnel have been structured in order to work fluidly as a team. As a business owner, it will also be extremely important for the success of your sales team to intimately understand sales and actively engage yourself in the activities of your sales team department. As a business grows, so doe s the need for additional sales personnel. The common notion would be that the more salespeople you employ the more sales your business will generate. However, remember that without a strict modus operandi of structuring the sales team members, such as the one presented in the discussion above, the expense of running a large-sized sales team may end up overwhelming that team’s value to the business. As mentioned, the sales team is the lifeline of the business; it gives the business its consumer base. With such a critical role, it is one of the most critical resources that any organization has. Therefore, do not make the grave mistake of assuming that one can grow in their business without promoting growth in the structure and efficiency of their sales team. At the end of the day, efficiency and value should be the primary focus for your sales team.Even in times of technological advancement and ease of access to a vast population of people, a winning sales team remains the key engin e of a business’s growth. A sales team is also a costly resource and creating one and structuring it takes a significant amount of time and effort. Structuring your sales team carefully and evolving the personnel to be able to handle the dynamics of various roles in the team when the need arises and supplementing and complimenting one another where need be, is what will enable your business to rise above its competition and capture a larger portion of the market. How one structures their sales team might just be the difference between a successful organization and an unsuccessful one. Note; structure follows strategy.Too often, we will place focus solely on market strategies of our businesses and spend our time trying to come up with new and better ones. We train our people in this art but we rarely evaluate our sales team structures; a vital organ of our businesses. Proper structure for a sales team of any size, big or small, can bring about substantial returns to your business w ithout having to make exaggerated investments for that purpose.

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Father of the Groom Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - I am the grooms father, Ken, and I have the great privilege of being best man. I have recently found out there are two reasons why J W asked me to do this job. 1) To make him look younger and slimmer in the photos. 2) Because he didnt want to burden any of his friends with the terrible prospect of having to give this speech. Its the speech that no one wants to do. The best man doesnt really know what hes expected to say and yet his speech is supposed to be humorous - but it might not be. In fact, its a habit that has spread beyond the house and to the car when, one frosty morning last winter, he scraped in the ice on Kathys car windscreen, I love you, so that she would find it in the morning on the way to work. We will write a custom essay sample on Responsibilities of Business Organizations or any similar topic only for you Order Now This value attached to business ethics can make a business boost its performance and achieve set objectives and goals (Donaldson Werhane 34). Customers, employees and employer satisfactions will dictate the type of ethics to be followed in a business. The responsibility of acting ethically lies on the hands of each single person in the organization. Acting ethically means more than adhering to company rules, policies or laws. Everything done counts and constitutes of visibility concerns that must be held high. Some of the business’ responsibilities expected to be practiced include the following. Legal Systems It is argued that the law binds the business to its ethics. Milton Friedman the view’s pioneer said that as long as businesses are faced with the obligation of making profits, all its activities should be inline with the country’s legal system. Friedman says that businesses should conform to core rules of both the country of operation and the ethics of the location where the business is located (Donaldson, Werhane123) The legal system of a country ensure that firms are regulated from engaging in activities that can prove detrimental to the broader perspective of social good including its citizens and environment. It’s the responsibility of the firm to ensure that all these regulations are complied with as far as running its activities. This is despite the inability of government laws being unable to cover all perspectives of business operations. Business Practices and Priorities Businesses are expected to be responsible in performing their activities. This is because the most crucial stakeholders of the firm dictate them to be. For instance it is the obligation of the business to carry out activities that are in agreement with their employees views. This is due to the benefits that accompany increased engagements and cooperation of employees. Other key stakeholders include customers, investors and consumers. The community of operation and regulators all require their needs to be satisfied by the corporations. It’s upon the organization to determine the degree of importance of each stakeholder and how to satisfy their different needs. Community Expectations It is the responsibility of the firm to work hand in hand with the local community. This in turn will prevent conflicts that are bound to take place when disagreements regarding some actions taken or not taken by one of the parties involved. The community will hold the corporation responsible for its actions. The community expects so much from the business and it’s of great importance if the firm fulfills this expectation. This can be in form of employment creation, participation in community activities and provision of better and improved living standard due to the other amenities attracted to the region. Education and Crisis Management It’s the responsibility of the organization to ensure that the society is educated regarding its operations. The society and the corporation should be able to work collectively with the society to tackle pressures that are taking place due to constant changes. If the company is involved in activities that can lead to crises, the duty of taking up cleaning measures lies on it. This is to avoid the effects that may result from the actions taken. The business has the responsibility of creating awareness to its customers and consumers regarding the side effects of their operations in the region and the products it’s selling. Social Issue of Excessive Drinking and Drugs-Samples for Students

Question: Discuss about the Management of Excessive drinking and drug taking in the family. Answer: Introduction This report outlines the main concept related to the social issue of excessive drinking and drugs taking by the people and it will be explained by taking the real life case study. This report will also provide some recommendation and treatments to manage these kind of issues. These problems are growing in the country at very fast speed. There can be many reasons for the excessive alcoholism and drug problem in an individual. These reasons can be psychological, social, biological or physiological. The whole report is based on a case study that depicts how the alcohol ruin the personal as well as professional life of the human being. Also, the report focusing on the different risk criterias as well as the treatment of these problems . Case History Clara, a 57 years old woman has been in the habit of drinking alcohol for 45 years. After the death of her husband, she become addicted to it and lost her job due to non-fulfillment of her duties at work. She faced legal problems due to drinking alcohol while driving. Her children fell apart from her because of her drinking habits. She faced anxiety and depression due to this problem (Marcia, Reinaldo, Pillon, 2008). DSM-V Diagnosis Criteria Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, V states about the diagnosis of the mental disorders which happens to the individual due to the usage of particular substance e.g. Alcohol or drug etc. The importance of DSM-V lies in the fact that it makes classification of the mental disorders and laid criteria for the treatment, investigation and diagnosis of these mental disorders. The diagnostic criteria of alcohol and drug abuse is as under: Impaired control: Impaired control can be seen when there is a strong craving for the alcohol or drug and in spite of the efforts of the addicted person, he is unable to live without these substances. In the above said case Clara shows all the symptoms of craving for Alcohol. She used to drink for the psychological reasons e.g. to relieve her stress or depression. She had no control over her drinking habit (Birech, Kabiru, Misaro, Kariuki, 2013). Social harm: Social harm is a kind of substantial harm caused due to the excessive and repeated use of Alcohol or drug. The addicted person continues to use these substances in spite of the fact that he is not fulfilling his family and social obligations. Addiction can be analyzed from the fact that the addicted person is mostly involved in making arguments with another family member and lose the patience and control which a normal person has. As a result he lose the important relationship and friends. Laura feels isolated from her children. She thinks her children blame her for their fathers death. She is not enjoying a social life and get isolated from friends and family. Risk factor: The major issue of this criteria is that the person continue to use alcohol or drug in spite of the fact that it is dangerous to his life and affect the life of the persons who are attached to him e.g. friends, family etc. For example, he continues to use the drug while driving the vehicle or operating a machinery. The person continues the use of these substances causing physical and psychological problems. In this case Laura has to face legal issues due to drinking alcohol while driving. Pharmacological signs: Tolerance and Withdrawal are the signs of advanced stage of addiction. Tolerance arises when the addicted person increases the use of alcohol or drug when he does not get the desired effect. When the body of an individual developed a tolerance to a particular drug and on the cessation of that drug, the person feels illness or sickness in the body. This is called the withdrawal symptom. At this stage, medical assistance is needed. The person will be diagnosed for both substance use as well as substance withdrawal. The withdrawal from alcohol or drugs can be fatal to the body if the person is in the continuous or repeated use of these substances. In the abovesaid case Clara is facing the same issue and need to be diagnosed according to the abovesaid criteria (Matowo, 2013). Case formulation Alcoholism and drug problem is a chronic illness which is not easily identifiable on seeing someones face. Physical signs of alcohol consumption are slurred speech, clumsiness, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting, redness on the face, oversleeping and loss of consciousness. Excessive use of alcohol affect the respiratory system. The behaviour of an alcoholic is often dangerous due to which he faces legal, financial and health problems. Excessive use of alcohol and drug both has adverse effect on physical health as mental health. Intoxication and dehydration is a short term effect while changes in the metabolism of brain and liver is a long term effect. It not only effect the health life but also the personal and professional life of the individual. The most common negative effect of excessive alcoholism and drug problem is the inability to fulfil social and work related obligations, physical injury, legal problems, short term memory loss, impulsivity and relationship problems with family, friends etc. The main bad effects of alcohol on human body are that it increase the risk of heart related disease. The lever and nerve can be damaged. The risk of the cancer of mouth and throat also increases. Apart from this it affect the sexual life of a human being. It can cause impotency in a man and infertility in a woman (Guiney, 2015). Excessive alcoholism and drug addiction is such a mental state in which an individual starts depending on a particular substance which is difficult to treat. In order to overcome this addiction, the services of a mental health professional is needed. When the dependency on alcohol and drug increased, the individual reach on such a stage where he feels illness or sickness in case of sudden absence of alcohol or drug. He feels the need of alcohol or drug the whole day. An alcoholic or drug addicted always avoid the company of the non-users and likes to spend time with the users of alcohol or drug. The problem arises when he feels unable to quite these things. There can be many reasons for the excessive alcoholism and drug problem in an individual. These reasons can be psychological, social, biological or physiological. An individual starts taking alcohol or drug for the fun purpose. But it can also be taken due to the depression or financial problems. A person can be more vulnerable to addiction if there is a family history of the abuse of alcohol or drug. If a substance is more easily available, it can also increase in developing alcohol or drug problem in an individual. Apart from this when a person starts using these things on regular basis, he becomes physically dependent on alcohol or drug and he makes continuous use of this in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms (NCBI, 2017). Alcoholism can also be a genetic problem which tends to run in families. There are many people who face emotional and psychological problems and they start consuming alcohol or drug to self- medicate. In the abovesaid case Clara is facing the same situation. She is facing emotional trauma due to the death of her husband. The separation and emotional detachment with children further lay stress on her. The anxiety and depression leads her to increase the consumption of alcohol. She wants to quit this excessive consumption of alcohol but is unable to do it due to the reasons beyond her control. She is facing withdrawal symptoms. She feels illness or sickness in her body in the absence of consumption of alcohol. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms arise 4-12 hours after the stoppage or reduction of alcohol use. Symptoms of Alcohol withdrawal can be very unpleasant. Sweating in the body, insomnia, nausea, anxiety are some of the common symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. In some cases alcohol withdrawal can be fatal and leads to the death of the person. This situation can be dealt with only medication and proper treatment (Siglow, 1999). Treatment, goals and planning The excessive use of alcohol and drug is a very complicated and serious issue. There are many reasons which make a person addicted to alcohol or drug. The reasons are genetic, environment, mental health etc. Treatment by chemical dependency specialist is advised in this regard. Otherwise stopping the alcohol consumption without the help of a medical practitioner can lead to the risk of life. The risk of the death of the person is increased in this case. So there is a need to prevent this disease through proper medication and treatment. The more important thing which needs to be taken care of is the support of the family. Without the support of the family, it is difficult to treat the individual as many emotional aspects are related with this disease. So it is necessary to understand the psychological condition of the individual. The individual can regain control over himself if proper treatment is given to him (Klingemann, 2001). The effects and consequences of use of excessive drug and alcohol on family are distressing. According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Report 2012, In United States more than 10% children live with parents who has alcohol problem. There is a risk of mental health problems to such children e.g. depression, nervousness, low esteem, addiction etc. The parents who are addicted to alcohol or drugs are more often neglect their children and family members. The emotional detachment also comes between them. Financial problems are often increased in such families as most of the money is spent on purchasing alcohol and drug. Legal problems can also arise due to the use of drugs or alcohol or drug leading to the separation between the family members. Where the children are addicted to alcohol or drugs, the parents may feel unable to solve the issue of addiction of children. These parents can take the help of a councelor or a social worker in redressing the issue of a ddiction of their child. The best way is to keep the child away from alcohol and drugs by showing love, faith and trust. The emotional bond between a parent and child can easily overcome this disease (Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, Inc., 2017). Alcohol and drug problem puts a lot of stress on family members. The only focus of the drug addicts is shifted on getting and taking drugs. They lie and gets involved in theft to buy alcohol or drugs. There are often fights in the family due to the usage of excessive alcohol or drugs. The reputation of the family also get affected. The whole family is affected even if one of the family member is addicted to alcohol or drugs. Timely response and treatment of the addicted person can prevent the health problems to increase and the emotional attachment between the family members can become stronger. The family play the key role in curing any kind of heath related problems including drug addiction. Family therapy is an important source of help in the process of treatment. Family therapy is an healing approach which believe in family level assessment and involvement. In family every part is interrelated. Family therapy serves two purpose. Firstly, assets and strength of the family is used to find ways to live without the use of alcohol or drug. Secondly it improve the impact of alcohol and drugs on the addicted family member. Frequent discussions and problem solving sessions help the addicted person to overcome the problem of addiction (Dodd Saggers, 2006). The main goal of family therapy helps in the prevention of addiction moving from one generation to another. A healthy family structure can deal with the problem of drug addiction effectively. Treatment of an adolescent drug addicted can decrease the risk of criminal behaviour and continued drug addiction in adults. From the medical history of Clara it appears that she need a medical detox. In-patient hospital detoxification program can help her to overcome this disease. Detoxification help the patient to withdraw the addiction of alcohol or drug slowly and safely. Second option can be taken of recovery and outpatient medical detoxification program. Both these options can help her to deal with the problem of excessive drinking of alcohol. Exercise and a nutritional diet plan can further decrease the impact of this addiction. The help of a counsellor can be taken who will give guidance to Clara about how to deal with this addiction and education about the ill effects of excessive alcohol should be given to Clara. Loss of job, loss of reputation, separation with family and the grief over the death of her husband all can induce her to commit suicide. The help of a counsellor will be beneficial at this stage to deal with the situation of depression (Copello, Velleman, Templeton, 2005) In the end, the support of the family will increase the possibility of getting rid of the addiction of excessive alcohol. The children should show support towards Clara and spend maximum time with Clara. It is also necessary that the children should make her realize that she is not responsible for the death of her husband. Excessive drinking habits was the actual reason behind the demise of her husband. She needs to get out this situation. There is a need that the emotional bond between her and children to be stronger. Only a healthy family relationship can give strength to cope with every difficult situation including alcohol or drug addiction. Conclusion As a result , the report highlights the life of Clara and her drinking habits., that is an example for others to stop taking drugs and alchol. As the Clara was suffering from many problems because of the drugs. Clara spoiled her professional, physical and personal life as a whole. The death of the husband, children avoidance, diseases and loss of jobs are the results of her excessive drugs and dinks. It is recommended that the people should not ruin their life by making these drugs and alchohol as their habits. Moreover, the whole family is affected even if one of the family member is addicted to alcohol or drugs. Timely response and treatment of the addicted person can prevent the health problems to increase and the emotional attachment between the family members can become strongerThe final outcome of these drugs is the death only. The strong family relationships are the best medicine or the treatment for these type of social issue References Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, Inc. (2017). 5 Simple Marketing Strategies for First-Time Authors

5 Simple Marketing Strategies for First-Time Authors 5 Simple Marketing Strategies for First-Time Authors Brent Jones recently  gave up his freelance career as a social media manager to pursue creative writing full-time. At the end of this past February, he published his debut novel,  The Fifteenth of June, and in  the following month, Brent has been focused on what he knows to be an equally important part of an author's job: marketing.  In this article, he  shares 5 simple marketing strategies that all first-time authors can (and should!) try, and how his efforts have already started to pay off. I had the good  fortune of hiring  Laura Mae Isaacman  to edit my book through Reedsy - she worked tirelessly to make my debut release,  The Fifteenth of June, as powerful as it could be. But no matter how great a book is, publishing it is only  half the battle. For new authors such as myself, it takes a lot of work to  market a novel and find our first readers. To quote Amy Collins, author of  The Write Way:â€Å"Writing a great book is a basic requirement for simply being allowed a chance to succeed in the marketplace.†I will be outlining in this post some of the launch strategies I used  to market my debut novel. This list is not intended to be exhaustive, and I am not an expert marketer of literary fiction. But there's a lot we can learn from  one another, and I hope to start a productive discussion in the comments below.Ready? "Publishing a book is only half the battle. The other half is marketing it." @AuthorBrentJ 1. Run a free Kindle promotion 685 people entered my giveaway, but more importantly,  300+ users added my book  to their  to-read  shelf. And when a user adds a book to one of his or her shelves, it appears as an update in their feed, meaning their friends on Goodreads  can see that they have added my book! Most of those 10 print copies have been delivered, so it will be interesting to see in the coming weeks how many of those winners read the book, write a review, or recommend it to a friend. One recipient, Denise Levendoski, has already written a glowing review of The Fifteenth of June on Goodreads. The bottom line? It's been about a month since I published my book, and  I've sold close to 100 copies of my book at regular price, not including revenue generated through the Kindle Unlimited Lending Library. As far as I'm concerned, I’m off to a great start, considering  some of my marketing initiatives, such as reaching out to book bloggers, haven't even begun to pay off. Not to mention that many who  downloaded  The Fifteenth of June  haven't read it yet.In the meantime, I'm focused on my next novel, which I intend to publish by  August. I've heard from other  self-published authors that it generally takes four titles to gain  some traction. Not true in every case, I suppose, but  a fair guideline nonetheless. Poverty and Education

Poverty and Education Free Online Research Papers A young boy gets out of bed in the morning still hungry from the night before. There wasn’t any food in the house because Daddy has been out of work for almost a year and they don’t have money to buy the basic needs. A few days ago he witnessed strangers coming into the house and taking the furniture because Mom and Dad couldn’t pay the balance on a loan. He gets dressed for school by putting on clothes that are two sizes too big for him. Today is PE and he is supposed to have gym shoes but the only shoes he has are oversized â€Å"clod hopper† boots Mom picked up somewhere for free. He knows he will be teased by his classmates for his dress and derided by his PE teacher for his boots. He is hoping there is at least some cornmeal to make mush for breakfast because he is really hungry. There isn’t. He needs speech therapy because he stutters so badly sometimes his parents cannot understand him. Teachers get frustrated with his speech and ign ore his questions. Where is the money to come from? Mom and Dad can’t buy enough food for him and the other five children much less luxuries such as doctors, dentists and speech therapists. He goes to school hungry, feet hurting, and dreading interaction with his schoolmates and teachers. He only goes to school because he is forced. The highlight of his day is lunch because he is a lunch room worker and his lunch is free. This is a real life scenario that is repeated each and everyday across the nation. Families and individuals so steeped in poverty they don’t have a place to live, food to eat or clothes to wear. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs education takes a backseat in meeting the basic survival needs of food, shelter and safety. (Boeree, 2006). These are not the only problems associated with low socio-economic status (SES) that affect a child’s learning abilities. Low SES has an effect on a child’s education from the time he/she is conceived throughout his/her life. Low SES families do not have access to sufficient health care therefore a mother will not get proper prenatal care. Low SES children suffer from other diseases and illness such as uncorrected vision, hearing problems, and other maladies, all which disrupt cognitive development (Slavin, 2006). Low SES families lack resources to help or reinforce a child’s education. They don’t go on vacations, visit museums or other activities that help middle and upper class families prepare their children for or reinforce what they learn. Many low SES families are from different ethnic backgrounds whose parents do not speak English. Also low SES parents have low educational expectations for their children and do not or do not know how to award their children for academic achievement. A set of behaviors also accompany low SES that besets education. As a child progresses through school he falls further behind in academic achievement. As this happens he/she becomes frustrated and eventually gives up on learning. Attendance becomes a problem. Truancy leads to delinquency which leads to a myriad of other problems such as drug and alcohol abuse, and teen pregnancy. If they come to class they come unprepared and or unwilling to learn. But, in my opinion, the biggest hurdle to educating at-risk children is the teacher. Many teachers have preconceived notions about low SES children and prejudge them based on those notions. Many times they focus on the student’s undesirable behavior and not on ways to help the student learn. Some lower the standards and alter their curriculum to an extreme slow pace that keeps the student forever behind. Some teachers discount or refuse to acknowledge low SES problems in their students and make no modifications to help these students (Young). With the curve balls and sliders life throws at these low SES students, how can we help them succeed not only in attaining an education but in life? First and foremost teachers must overcome there own prejudices and cease discrimination against low SES students. That takes great determination and sometimes Herculean effort on the teacher’s part. If a student perceives any type of discriminatory behavior from the teacher he/she will refuse to learn. The phrase â€Å"the teacher hates me† becomes a reality and barriers are thrown up in defense. What a waste! Teachers must foster a safe and secure classroom environment. Teasing and derision must not be allowed. A student should feel safe to raise his/her hand to answer and ask questions without fear of derision from other students or the teacher. More than likely they receive such at home. At the beginning of the year teachers need to let students know what the rules are in the classroom. The rules should be clear, concise, relevant and should not be excessive (Slavin, 2006). The rules should be accompanied by consistent reinforcers. At the very beginning of the year students need to know what the standards are for the class. These standards should be high but attainable. Teachers must not lower the standards for an individual but must work to ensure the individual meets the standards. This may require the teacher to modify his/her teaching methods or even the curriculum but never lower the standards. To ensure success the teacher must take the time and become acquainted with each and every student in the class. As the teacher becomes acquainted with the students the teacher discovers what motivates the student to become engaged in learning. Half the battle of a teacher is learning how to motivate students to learn. Part of the student’s motivation is dependent on his/her SES. Teachers should remain cognizant of this fact in their search for motivation factors and develop strategies to engage the student in learning. A very effective technique of motivating students is the Pygmalion effect (Tauber, 1998). A teacher who portrays a belief that a student can attain high standards results in the same belief in the student. The belief becomes self-prophetic and the student will meet standards. Teachers must be flexible in their teaching strategies. Teaching strategies may include constructive techniques, cooperative or collaborative teaching. For some individuals, extra time in a one-on-one situation may be necessary for the student to learn. As students learn and meet standards feedback and reinforcement are necessary to maintain classroom achievement and progress. My experience has been that many times praise in the classroom is the only praise a student receives. This too is a great motivator for many students. To help a student learn it may be necessary for the teacher to coordinate with other departments in the school or agencies in the community. If a student has a very low reading ability then coordination with the special education department is necessary to coordinate strategies to help the student. If the community has several after school programs the teacher can encourage the student to participate in those programs. If need be, the teacher should attend the first meeting to help relieve the student’s anxiety. As many tools as teachers have to help them teach they cannot do it alone. Parents/Guardians must become involved in the learning process. Teachers can involve parents through parent/teacher conferences, inviting parents into their classroom and phone calls home. Most parents receive phone calls from teachers only when their child misbehaves but a phone call telling the parent about their child’s success is a great reinforcer and reaps far more benefits. Communities need to get involved. Big Brothers and Big Sisters is a great community organization that provides tutoring to at-risk children. Teachers can encourage students to participate in the local summer reading program and the public library. This will also help prevent the â€Å"summer slide† experienced by low SES students (Slavin, 2006). Poverty is a vicious cycle without mercy. As teachers we are able to influence and change lives. Teachers cannot save all their students and many teachers become discouraged. But if they can help one person break the cycle then they have helped future generations. I am one of those. The story in the first paragraph is my story. I know what it is like to be hungry, to not know where the next meal comes from, and to share one bedroom with 5 other siblings on one bed. â€Å"At-risk† was not in a teacher’s vocabulary back then; you were â€Å"slow†, â€Å"stupid†, or â€Å"retarded†. My stuttering is almost extinct now because of a Sunday School teacher who studied public speaking in college. I was twelve years old when I was in her Sunday School class and she wanted me to give a talk. I told her no. She made a deal with me, she would teach me to give that talk without stuttering if I were to accept the assignment. She was so persistent I co uldn’t say no. She kept her word and so did I. That same year, while riding my bicycle, I discovered the public library and the Hardy Boys therein. Reading opened a whole new world to me and the library became my refuge. I will forever be grateful for all my teachers, good and bad, for the bad taught me how not to be, in and out of the classroom. Boeree, C. (2006). Abraham Maslow. Internalization of Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Internalization of Business - Essay Example Presently, the company employs 100 staff to deal with its manufacturing of products such as DVD players and MP3 players. Although the company is supplying products to the Japanese market, it has failed to expand its business over the last two years. A number of reasons are attributable to the company’s stunted growth including higher wages it has been paying and lack of research and development staff. Furthermore, the company is struggling to address highly competitive market environment in terms of technology development and innovation. Hence, it is necessary to critically analyse the present situation of the company and to anticipate the key trends for Elecdyne over the next five years. The 2008 global crisis and recession raised potential challenges to the global economy and it impeded the economic growth worldwide. Many economists are of the view that the global financial crisis 2008-09 is the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression in 1930s. As Soifer (2010) poi nts out, the crisis led to the collapse of a series of large financial institutions, the bailout of major banks by national governments, and downward movements in stock markets around the world (p.163). This crisis might have contributed to the growth decline of the Elecdyne. In modern days, market competition is very intense and therefore manufactures tend to design innovative models that would effectively dominate the market. Due to this stiff competition, customers get the extensive exposure to choose the best quality and affordable products. Since the Elecdyne lacks an effective R&D team, the company is really striving to develop innovative product models; and this worse condition keeps them away from the main stream of the international market. According to Despont (n.d), innovation and continued R&D is very important for an enterprise to survive the intense market competition because the modern customers always ask for the best products. However, it seems that the process of u rbanisation though networks and partnerships offer ranges of opportunities to organisations. It is observed that Elecdyne is currently near to sources of information and hence it can certainly become stronger by preparing itself to face international competition. Nowadays social networking sites such as facebook and Twitter have attained worldwide popularity and these social channels will enable the Elecdyne to understand customer tastes and specifications and thereby to maintain profitable market segments by realizing potential business territories. As Gourmelen (2004) points out, EU union expansion has created potential opportunities for organisations. In addition, Eastern European countries like Romania have cheaper salary margins as compared to UK .Hence, the Elecdyne can effectively offshore its manufacturing activities to such countries where favourable business conditions are prevailing. In addition, the company may obtain beneficial market environment in rapidly developing e conomies like India and China where the Elecdyne would get cheaper business inputs. The term STEEP is the acronym for Socio-cultural, Technological, Economic, Environmental, and Political Factors. While analysing the socio-cultural factors, it seems that the company possesses a range of potential challenges. To illustrate; Japan, the company’s home country, is one of the world’s most famous countries for its electronics industry. Therefore cheap and close substitutes to Elecdyne’

Manuscript Submission and Peer- review System

Manuscript Submission and Peer- review System World’s First Manuscript Submission and Peer- review System  Integrated with Social Networking Dr. Antony Raj*, Balaji Jagadeesan, Muthumariappan M and  Bhuvaneswari Ranganathan Abstract: Any major change in the way people communicate is bound to have major implications for education. Today, in the fast paced life, promoting self written research article/publications is very important to improve the citation of the article and credit to the author’s original concept. Social media has become this significant part of our modern civilization. Manuscript Management system (MMS) – developed by J-Technologies India Limited, made it simple for the authors to share their research papers to their social network and professional network in a jiffy. Introduction During the early days, scholars and researchers wrote their articles and published them in journals. Traditionally, library patrons and researchers came to the library to read or to make copies of these articles. To some extent publishers and vendors competed to receive orders from libraries. The first journal was started during 1665 in France. It was called Journal des sà §avans. The new era of on-line electronic publishing, however, has changed the way of accessing information for scholars and researchers. With the emergence of the electronic publishing, scholars and researchers are able to publish articles on-line without going through a publisher or a vendor and users can access information without going to the library. (Blake 2000) Scientists seek out publication outlets that maximize the chances of their work being cited for many reasons. So, they adapted well to utilize social media from the start to share their resources, discuss the issues they face and also to be known in the scientific community. Citations provide stable links to cited documents and make a public statement of intellectual recognition for the cited authors. Citations are an indicator of the dissemination of an article in the scientific community and provide a quantitative system for the public recognition of work by qualified peers. Having work cited is therefore an incentive for scientists, and in many disciplines it forms the basis of a scientist’s evaluation. (Clark, D. 2012). Social networking as a key to improve citation Social networking websites (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus etc.,) have become increasingly integrated into the way many people today act, think, and relate to each other. Social networking has a multitude of implications for the field of education and these impact students, educators, administrators, and parents alike. There are numerous challenges and opportunities offered by these sites and making out the maximum from the social networking cloud in terms of getting ones research known. Sonali Guha. (2014) Ease of Sharing with Social network integration The usage of social network is vast and everyone wants to be updated about various things from basic daily occurrences to complicated rocket science. When one shares ones scientific work the rate  at which the work is read increases. This does not stop here, but also; if the research is interesting or novel, people tend to share and also spread the information and this will bring in more people to read and refer the particular research work. Recent updates about current, ongoing research are available in various journals. Some being open access and other require subscription. These journals are known to only limited number of people and not to all. Although, researchers read numerous articles they usually do not take time to share new work through social network due to lack of time even it’s as simple as a copy paste of a url. So this new innovation of integration of social networking in scientific journals aids in easy sharing of information and also acts as a tool. Angell. B and Gabie E. (2012) Integration of Social Networking Portals. Integration of scientific journal with Social networking sites through the Application Programming Interface (API) was first developed by J-Technologies India Limited in the year 2012 and was implemented in their own journal â€Å"Online Journal of BioSciences and Informatics†. Advantages of integration of social networks into journal portals As previously mentioned, social networking acts as a great tool for marketing. The better a scientist’s work is known, better is the appreciation of the work. When a research article is marketed well, the probability of the citation also increases which in turn leads to better impact factor (a rating given by Thomson Reuters). Higher the value, the better the rating of the researcher. This will help the researcher in many ways including getting placed in a better lab, getting research grants etc. Claire Saxby, (2004) Summary Online Journal of BioSciences and Informatics (JBI) have implemented the system of social networking to share the articles. Although, researchers read numerous articles they usually do not take time to share new work through social network due to lack of time even it’s as simple as a copy paste of a url. So this new innovation of integration of social networking in scientific journals aids in easy sharing of information and also acts as a tool. Citations are an indicator of the dissemination of an article in the scientific community and provide a quantitative system for the public recognition of work by qualified peers. Having work cited is therefore an incentive for scientists, and in many disciplines it forms the basis of a scientist’s evaluation. Social networking can help scientists in across many countries get the opportunity to meet and participate in the international research. References Clark, D. (2012). Deontology and the Categorical Imperative

First, let us examine what it means to act in a deontological manner. Demonology is â€Å"the normative ethical position that Judges the morality of an action based on the action's adherence to a rule or rules† (â€Å"Ethics-virtue†, Standard Encyclopedia of Philosophy). For someone to act in a deontological manner, he must follow a course of action not because it causes the greatest amount of good to either themselves or others, but because it is the â€Å"right† thing to do. A deontological believes that it is their â€Å"duty† to follow these moral imperatives, and it is these values which are the basis which Emmanuel Kant bases his Categorical Imperative on.In Kantian, a theory of demonology developed by Emmanuel Kant based on his Categorical Imperative, we should make decisions based on our duty to others and that it is not the action's consequences which make it right or wrong, but the motives of the individual who is carrying them out (Kant, Emmanue l. 1780. â€Å"Preface†). For example, if I say, I do not murder other human beings because I would not wish others to murder, I am behaving deontological because as a society we would not wish murder to become a universal rule.Similarly, I would not wish someone to secretly defraud Investors and embezzle company money, but more on that soon. If a person is to act in this decidedly UN;deontological manner, they might have justified it in one of two likely other manners. The first non-deontological theory we someone could operate with is utilitarianism. In this moral theory, â€Å"the proper course of action is the one that maximizes utility, specifically defined as maximizing happiness and reducing suffering† (Utilitarianism. N. D. ) In Wisped. Retrieved January 20, 2013, from http:// ordering others, we still do not wish this to occur but this time it is because the act of murder does not maximize happiness as a society. The loss of an individual in this manner would detract from the whole be it either from a production stand-point, or because of the emotion detriment it brings others. Misuse of a corporation's funds could be Justified in a certain scenario, so we will add this to our toolbox of motives for now.A second non-deontological moral theory we must examine is the idea of egotism. With egotism, a person's primary drive is to enhance their own interests – be they intellectual, physical, societal, or otherwise – over the interests of others (Egotism. (n. D. ) In Wisped). Within the context of our example about murder, an egotist does not wish for murder to exist simply because he or she would not wish to be murdered. Within the scope of business operations, this ideology would seem to form the basis of most practices. While the advancement of a corporation would be paramount in the eyes of those with the most vested interest, this moral guideline can be disastrous in a society that does not share this belief as the rule of th e land. Let us now look at two of the ethical problems raised by the Delphic Communications case. The first problem we will examine is the fact that Delphic was using two different sets of accounting books, one with doctored numbers that was given to investors, and one which showed the true finances and what was being manipulated for the fraudulent figures. This, according to testimony produced by James R. Brown, Dahlia's former vice president of finance (Grant, 2004, p. CLC). Members of the Riggs family were ultimately indicted for looting the company of more the $100 million and aiding $2 billion in debt. Regardless of an argument of either this being a cover-up in order to hide the Riggs family's personal use of company funds, or merely a tactic to delay investor outrage in order to settle outstanding debts incurred by Delphic operations, this cannot be considered a deontological based maneuver.Adherence to ones duty to the company and its core operations is contrary to these kind s of behavior. Also, under no circumstance would lying biblically about a company's well- being in a capitalistic society be considered as being desirable as a normative rule. At best, if this were done as to buy the company time to right its finances, this action could be eschewed as utilitarian if the underlying goal was to prevent panic on Wall SST. And to maximize society's net worth.Likelier, this was an egotistic based motive in order for the Riggs family to continue their practices of using the company as their personal â€Å"piggy-bank† as it were. There is evidence of this being the case based upon the next ethical issue we will address. During the course of investigations carried out in the course of this case, it was covered that members of the Riggs family had also used corporate money to finance a golf-course on private family property of theirs (The SEC, 2002).Much like the previously mentioned ethical problem, it is difficult to determine in what, if any, way t his action could be eschewed as either a deontological or categorically imperative decision. If it were the norm for members of any company with access to corporate funding to use them on private projects without prior approval, there would be few corporations which would be able to operate in much of any capacity. Dominant having misappropriated funds that were allocated for actual business operations.Even when viewed in light of a utilitarian stand-point, the Jobs which would have been created through the construction and operation of said golf-course would not have warranted an unauthorized expenditure of this magnitude outside of the company's normal business operations. The member of the Riggs family who authorized the use of these funds should have instead chosen to use his own capital in order to finance this endeavor if it was truly that necessary. Utilizing Dahlia's none in order to build this project falls categorically within the scope of an egotist method of reasoning.Th ese couple examples were but a few highlights that were uncovered during the course of the Delphic indictment. Members of the Riggs family might not have seen an end to their empire had they taken a step back and evaluated not only the consequences of their actions, but the rationale behind what they were doing. Demonology and categorical imperatives, like most morale methodologies, are difficult to apply in every scenario. Doing what is right for the sake of its rightness, or because t is your duty to perform in a specific way can fail in an instance of grave social importance. As instanced in the threaded discussion this week, if a programmer of nuclear missile technologies learns of an attack by his employer against another nation does his or her duty lie with the attacker or those who would be attacked? Of the moral decision making tools discussed in this paper, Egotism, Utilitarianism, Demonology, and Categorical Imperatives all provide a different answer to the question in hand . The members of the Riggs family might still feel they are in the eight if their ill gains were greater than the pain of imprisonment from a strictly Egotistic model.
